When learning how to draw a scorpion, giant and monstrous – like the one you see above… it’s a good idea to provide some sort of reference. Here, this small – low-detailed soldier, poised and ready to do battle… helps to convey that yes – it really is that big!
You can see too, the details, colors – and overall style of this monster – is unique to myself. If was fun to come up with a totally new look for this critter… see if you can do the same as you’re working through the lesson.
Drawing time!
How to Draw a Scorpion
In the beginning – let’s take a look at some of the various shapes which compose this animal – and how they are interconnected to bring forth its shape and structure. Keeping things nice and simple – here’s what we’ve got:
A circle for the stinger area, and a couple ovals to help illustrate the head and body…

These grey lines help to show the angle and direction that the scorpion is facing…

Here’s how the stinger – as well as its legs come into play…

And then of course – the pincers! In one final touch, I sketched in the position of a much smaller person. This again, will help to convey that YES – this scorpion is BIG!

OK then – let’s begin the drawing, starting with the left eye…

Gradually bring the upper head into view. Actually, draw the pincers first – then the head…

Bring the front arms into view as they would appear – given the stance of the scorpion, and viewed from this angle…

Start drawing the body…

And then all the way up to near the end of its tail – gradually bring your lines into view, curving in such a way that the animal has depth. After this, start the legs…

Get creative with the stinger. This is just one way it could look. You have yours looking totally different. Have it able to shoot fire – or draw two, or three! See what you can come up with!

With the legs complete – add all sorts of little sketchy dots, lines and scratches to make the scorpion look a little more ‘rough’…

A tiny little not-too-detailed soldier…

And finally – some color! Even though it’s a ‘black scorpion’ – I think the addition of red makes it look even better…

And that’s how to draw a scorpion – to look like a giant monster!
You now know how to draw a giant scorpion. I hope you enjoyed this ‘cartoon monster’ lesson…
See you soon for another!
